Transforming Lives through LAYC Housing Programs
At Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), we understand that home is not just a place—it's a foundation for stability, growth, and success. That’s where our Transitional Living Program (TLP) and Host Homes program comes in, offering a crucial lifeline to youth experiencing housing instability.
From reconnecting with education to securing stable employment, the program creates a supportive environment where youth can grow, heal, and thrive. Alexis, a TLP participant, shared his journey and how the TLP program impacted his life.
As many youth are in crisis, immediate needs like housing, food, and necessities are critical. “The program gave me support...I had heat, I had food, and I had what was necessary,” shared Alexis, TLP Participant.
Now 21 years old, Alexis was introduced to the program when he was 17. He lived with his host family, Jorge, and Sonia, who provided a nurturing space where trust and love grew. Through the program, Alexis was able to achieve significant milestones, including learning English, attending school, and obtaining a work permit.
At LAYC, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all youth. Alexis shared how safe he felt when coming out to his host family. “When I told Jorge and Sonia that I liked boys, they didn’t reject me. They even gave me advice and supported me.”
Having experienced such transformative support, Alexis's story is a testament to the resilience of young people and the life-changing power of programs like LAYC TLP and Host Homes.
The Housing program embodies LAYC’s mission to create a supportive community where youth can overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. By offering safety, mentorship, and acceptance, this program continues to transform lives.
