Host Homes

Host Homes provides emergency housing to homeless or runaway youth between the ages of 12 and 17 for up to 21 days with a certified adult or Host Family in Maryland or Washington, DC. Youth will receive and participate in case management services, transportation assistance, life skill workshops, recreational activities, mentoring, and referrals for physical, dental, mental health, and family therapy services. LAYC aims to achieve family reunification or transfer clients to a transitional living program. For Minors, we must obtain their parent or relatives’ authorization to work with us. If not, we cannot provide any services. For youth to maintain their housing placement, clients are expected to participate in the following activities: enroll in school, obtain employment, attend at least one home visit per week, attend case management meetings, meet with a mental health counselor (if applicable), save money, and attend annual physicals and bi-annual dental cleanings.

Family-Based Transitional Living

Our long-term program (up to 18 months) helps older homeless youth, 18-21, transition to adulthood in a loving home. Once a youth is placed in the home of a certified family, the program provides supportive services to the youth, the host family, and the youth’s biological family. These services include crisis intervention; individual, group, and family counseling; mental health assessments; referrals; intensive case management; and transportation.

Family Preservation

The goal of family preservation is to reunite you with their families. Our staff makes every effort to mediate temporary conflicts that do not pose a long-term threat to the youth’s safety. Our staff provides in-home family counseling, parent skills development, and mental health treatment for youth. We work with families who may be experiencing difficulties with adolescent behavior problems and mental health concerns as well as the effects of abuse or neglect, trauma, and poverty. We typically work with the families of youth at risk of running away or who have run away and are housed with one of our host families.
