Honoring the Legacy of Wendy Martinez: A Day of Celebration at LAYC Rita Bright Family and Youth Center

On July 29, our LAYC Rita Bright youth and staff came together to honor and celebrate Wendy Martinez's legacy on a day filled with creativity, community spirit, and joy. The event was marked by both celebration and remembrance as students participated in a variety of engaging activities, each reflecting Wendy’s passions and dedication to community service.

Check out how our youth participated in Wendy Martinez Day below:

Painting: Our young artists created beautiful works of art, inspired by Wendy's creativity and love for self-expression. The paintings not only showcased their talent but also served as a tribute to Wendy's enduring legacy.

Science Experiments: Budding scientists dived into exciting experiments, sparking curiosity and a love for discovery.

Mini-Marathon: Students participated in a mini-marathon, embracing Wendy’s love for running and her commitment to an active lifestyle.

This celebration was made possible through the generous support of The Wendy Martinez Legacy Project, an organization founded by Wendy's family and friends following her tragic passing while jogging in DC.  Their ongoing dedication to our youth ensures that Wendy’s spirit lives on, encouraging young people to thrive and make a positive impact in our communities.

Through art, science, and sports, our youth not only honored Wendy’s memory but also embraced the values she held dear: creativity, curiosity, and community. This event was a powerful reminder of how one person’s legacy can inspire and uplift others. We are deeply grateful to The Wendy Martinez Legacy Project for supporting our youth and families. Together, WE RUN FOR WENDY!
