Sexual Wellness Advocacy by Teens (SWAT) Program
The Sexual Wellness Advocacy by Teens (SWAT) Program aims to create an “army” of youth who are trained as peer educators to promote healthy sexuality and reproductive health, including the prevention of HIV, STI, and unplanned pregnancy.
In addition to increasing participants’ own knowledge and how to communicate key information to their peers, the program promotes a culture of openness and self-respect around sexual and reproductive health. SWAT programs are taught at middle and high schools in the DC area, creating improved partnerships with LAYC and opportunities to do outreach for testing services.
SWAT has partnered with GWU’s Compañeros de la Salud, a medical student organization that supports curriculum implementation, research development, and mentorship opportunities for young people.
