LGBTQ+ Ally Workshop
The LGBTQ+ Ally Workshop supports organizational change by increasing knowledge and awareness and provides practical solutions that lead to safer spaces for clients and staff.
Latin American Youth Center provides on-site training regarding best practices in creating safe spaces. Each activity within the workshop builds upon the one prior, leading to best practices as an ally.
Why it’s important…
Today there exists a critical need for everyone to understand their own biases and to acquire information regarding working with LGBTQ+ clients and staff in order to provide safe spaces for everyone.
Becoming an ally is a commitment, and this training will get you started on your journey to fostering inclusive environments.
The LGBTQ+ Ally workshop is an important part of having a complete cultural competency approach to organizational training and emphasizes learning about one’s self and the environments we work and live in.
Who needs it…
This workshop is ideal for organizations and workplaces looking to embed their settings with an inclusive mindset, such as:
Schools
Community Based organizations
Government public service agencies.
LAYC was chosen by the DC Mayors Office of LGBTQ Affairs to to provide bimonthly trainings that are required for housing providers to operate in the District.
Workshop History
In 2012, LAYC’s Safer Space committee created the LGBTQ+ Ally curriculum. This 4-hour training was developed to provide all LAYC staff with the foundational knowledge on LGBTQ+ history, terminology, and current intersections in our daily work lives.
The training increases awareness of self and provides a framework to begin or continue one’s journey in becoming a confident LGBTQ+ Ally.
Today, LAYC maintains the objective of training every employee in the organization to ensure young people and staff experience safe spaces.
