Job Readiness

LAYC’s job readiness programs focus on the work skills and living wage needs of low-income, multicultural youth who are not in school or employed.

Our programs provide critical opportunities to develop job skills, get job training and certifications, and access internship and employment opportunities. LAYC offers job-readiness programs at all of our sites. Most programs are self-paced and some offer advanced GED education

Conservation Corps

Our Montgomery County Conservation Corps provides opportunities for out-of-school youth ages 17–24 to participate in a variety of team-based environmental rehabilitation and habitat restoration projects.

River Corps

The River Corps engages residents of the District of Columbia ages 18–24 through classroom and field-based experiences to build the next generation of environmental stewards.

Workforce Programs

Our office in Prince George’s County offers job readiness training that positions youth to increase their employability skills and makes them eligible to participate in the internship program offered. The program also provides GED preparation for out-of-school youth ages 16 to 24 years of age.

Our extensive network of employer partners that host our youth for short-term internships in a variety of high-growth industries is a cornerstone of LAYC’s job readiness programs. Many of these internships offer stipends, extended mentorship opportunities, and lead to permanent job placement. Our annual youth job fair with the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development and the Department of Recreation attracts 50 employers from the area.
