It’s an honor to have you “on board,” Lena Hernandez!

We are thrilled to welcome Lena Hernandez to our stellar Board of Directors. Lena brings over 20 years of experience empowering and giving back to the communities that made her who she is today, making her an excellent role model for LAYC staff and youth alike.

Lena currently works as the Senior Director of External Affairs & Administration at D&P Creative Strategies. In this role, Lena leads the team in long-term relationship building and project management. After sixteen years with D&P, she is an expert negotiator and advocate with experience managing over $1 million in partnerships. 

In 2019, Lena received Prospanica DC’s distinguished 40 Under 40 Award. She also was recognized in 2014 with the Latina Leadership Award from the GLBT History Project and was a Spring 2020 graduate of the Mujeres de HACE Women’s Leadership Program. She also served as Conference Committee Chair and board member of Latinas Leading Tomorrow.

Outside of work, Lena spends time at her “mom job,” raising her daughter, Max, whom she describes as her greatest accomplishment. She is has also taken up the sport of golf and looks forward improving her swing. Lena is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but now lives in Southern Maryland with her wife, Candy, Max, and their mascot pup, Kiki.
