AmeriCorps #RandomActsof KindnessWeek

“Kindness” was on the menu at Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) during the week of February 13-17, which is regionally recognized as the AmeriCorps Random Acts of Kindness Week. Not only was it on the menu, but kindness made up the appetizer, main course, and the dessert.

First, our Prince George’s County members planned a separate Act of Kindness each day for individuals who have shown support and/or impacted them and the AmeriCorps programs at both Buck Lodge and William Wirt Middle Schools. Members created candy bags, hygiene kits, with students in the after school programs to give to bus drivers, cafeteria staff, school teachers, Principals and community members! AmeriCorps members also surprised LAYC staff in DC and Montgomery sites with coffee and donuts to show their appreciation.

In addition to the coffee and donuts surprise on Friday, 25 members from the Executive Team at AmeriCorps came to LAYC to lead by example. Led by AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith, the volunteers beautified two rooms at our Kaplan building, one of which included painting a tree that past, current and future AmeriCorps members can add their names and fingerprints by leaving a trace of their passing through the program.

AmeriCorps CEO and 24 members of the AmeriCorps executive team demonstrate how service never stops, even if it needs to be repeated!
